CLAUDIO AQUILES
Canon (2024) includes symbols such as the butterfly, bodies of water, and marine life, which have been part of the artist's visual imagery for over forty years. The composition reflects the artist's longstanding interest in the history of music, theories of evolution, space, and time.
The painting references the concept of ontological evolution as described in the discourse of biological theories such as determinism, species selection, and adaptation. Canon (2024) creates a visual analogy to a musical canon in the form of chemical bonds. These bonds evolve into cellular spheres with human figures becoming physically propagated among waves in a cosmic landscape.
