The present work is an oil sketch featuring a coastline with sea cliffs depicted with hazy atmospheric perspective. A daytime subject, the scene does not have figures and appears to be a study of the sunlight and ocean swell. The painting is reminiscent of compositions by 19th century artists who painted along the Northeast American coast, and shows similar handling to paintings by Alfred Bricher (1837-1908).
