This scene from a ball features a woman sitting in a white dress holding flowers with an observer.
Friedrich Stahl (1863-1940) was an accomplished society illustrator who regularly attended and depicted the scenes he observed at social gatherings popular in 19th century and early 20th century Eurpean cities such as Berlin, London and Rome. He published his drawings with magazines such as Fliegende Blätter, who worked with the artist from 1899. The illustrations would be accompanied by captions interpreting the narratives in the composition.
