Born Judyta Sobel in Lwów, Poland in 1924. By 1948 the artist attended the Academy of Fine Arts Łódź where she studied with Wladyslaw Strzeminski (1893-1952) and Stefan Wegner (1901-1965). Her work was exhibited as part of the inaugural collection opening of the Modern Art Museum in Krakow in 1948-1949. Between 1955 and 1956, Sobel moved between Israel and Paris. The artist came to New York in 1965 where she had a solo exhibition at the Jewish Museum in New York. The artist would go on to live in New York between New York City and Woodstock from 1979 until her death in 2012. Her work continued the stylistic inventions of the post-impressionists fused with the compositional disorder of the powerful Cubist and Constructivist tendencies from which she emerged.
